Description
The Goblin 700 is a new remote control helicopter product released in 2011 by SAB company of Italy under the brand of SAB Heli Division. Helicopters are new to the SAB company, however, they have been developing and supplying high-end carbon fiber blades to the RC heli market for years. The Goblin 700 is named as such because it is a 700-class electric heli that is designed to use 700mm main blades.
The head assembly of the SAB Goblin 700 is an all-aluminum flybarless work of art with a short profile head block that keeps the center of the main rotor disk as close to the center of mass of the heli as possible. Cyclic servo linkages are configured in a 120-degree, direct-to-swash arrangement.
The pod section of the Goblin consists of a two-piece carbon fiber frame-set that holds the battery tray and the landing gear to a single piece aluminum main frame. The aluminum main frame then holds all of the drive train components like the motor, drive gears, main shaft lower bearing block. The upper portion of the rotor assembly as well as the cyclic control servos are mounted on an aluminum upper sub-assembly that also mounts to the aluminum main frame plate.
The Goblin's tail boom is a molded carbon fiber tube that is not round, rather it has a square shaped cross section that is larger toward the pod section of the helicopter and tapers off toward the tail. The structural rigidity that is provided by the molded carbon fiber tail boom eliminates the need for carbon fiber boom support rods that are found in most other helicopters in the RC market. In addition, the tail boom features a break-away design that uses nylon fasteners to allow the boom to separate from the pod in the event of a crash. The design feature is meant to prevent damage to the tail boom.
The drive train consists of a Scorpion brushless outrunner main motor that is coupled via a belt drive to a central lower pulley. The central lower pulley then transfers power via a shaft to the herringbone main shaft drive gears as well as the forward tail belt pulley. Tail power is transferred via the traditional belt system to the rear tail pulley assembly.
Rounding out the design of the new Goblin 700 is a TDR / Mikado Logo style full-pod canopy that covers most of the helicopter's pod section including the area directly aft of the main shaft that traditionally is left open by other helicopters in the industry.
Early product videos released by the SAB Heli Division of the Goblin 700 show it using a Scorpion motor, a Kontronik ESC, and JR 8717 Cyclic servos, a Mikado V-bar flybarless stabalization system, and a head speed of 2120 RPM.
