Description
The Mini-Protos (MSH Protos 450) is a 450-class remote control helicopter kit engineered and manufactured by MS Heli of Italy. The helicopter was a new release as of 2010 for MS Heli and is essentially a scaled down version of its larger sibling, the MSH Protos 500.
Holding true to the unique design features of the Protos 500, the Protos 450 retains the ultra-quiet and efficient drive system that uses a single belt to transfer power from the motor pinion through the main gear and to the tail without using any gear mesh. This system is unique in the RC helicopter market and gives the Mini-Protos a similar sound to the larger 500.
The Mini-Protos is configured as a pod-and-boom design and uses a two-piece carbon fiber frame-set, belt drive (mentioned previously), and an aluminum tail boom. The kit comes stock with a head that can be configured as either flybared (FB) or flybarless (FBL) without the need to purchase any additional components for either configuration.
Stock configuration for the Mini-Protos is a 2580 Kv motor designed for use with 3s-6s LiPo batteries and a 60 Amp electronic speed controller.
Notable upgrades to the Protos 450 include the lower profile aluminum head block for use with the flybarless configuration and the recent addition of a stretch kit that allow the helicopter to turn larger 350mm main blades -- up from the stock 325mm main blades.
Protos 450 kits can be purchased directly from the MS Heli website or through the company's network of online and walk-in retail hobby shops.
