Description
The Trex 250 was Align's first official entry into the 200/250 sized remote control helicopter market. Production versions first began shipping in october 2008 and were received with much excitement by the market.
Because it is a very small helicopter some mistakenly think that it might make a good flyer for inside the home. Its size is deceiving, though, because it is very fast moving and can eat up a lot of sky in little time. It is loved for its ability to fly in relatively confined outdoor spaces, its ease of transport, and its broad flight envelope that makes it a strong 3d flyer.
The original version of the Trex 250 proved to be popular in the market. It was well designed having been modeled after it's larger siblings, the Trex 450, 600, and 700 -- designs that Align had spent much time perfecting.
Along with the good points of the design came some frustrating drawbacks that owners soon began to experience, most notable of these was a tail that was hard to control. The smaller the helicopter the more difficult it is to control the tail and the Trex 250 was no exception. Ultimately the three main factors that influence tail control proved to be critical on the 250:
- a well-balanced overall setup with very little vibrations
- a high-quality tail gyro
- a very fast and precise tail servo
With these three areas covered most of the tail problems on the Trex 250 disappear. Mechanically, though, there was some room for some improvement and those changes were introduced in the Trex 250SE version about a year later.
