Trex 450 Sport

Brand: Align
Manufacturer: Align Corporation

Description

The Trex 450 Sport by Align Corporation is the successor to the ever popular Trex 450 SE V2 and shares the 400-size class with it's fraternal twin, the Trex 450 Pro.  Unlike the 450 Pro, the 450 Sport has a four-piece carbon fiber frame (the Pro is 2-piece) and a belt driven tail (the Pro is torque tube).  Of the two, the Sport is most like its SE V2 predecessor with the following improvements:

  • Wider main blade grips (for larger rotor diameter)
  • Thicker main blade grip arms (survives crashes better)
  • Expanded flybar controlling points on flybar cage
  • Precision bearing mixing arms
  • Redesigned servo screw retainer
  • Frame structure blocks and motor mount redesigned to increase rigidity
  • Stronger battery mount
  • Improved gyro mount
  • Longer tail boom support rods with better connection design
  • Modified tail box with improved tail control arm
  • New swash anti-rotation guide

Variations

The target market for the Trex 450 Sport is, as the name implies, the sport flyer who wants a tried and true 400/450-sized helicopter in kit form.  The kits typically come in two variations.  The "kit" usually includes the partially assembled airframe, one or more sets of blades, a canopy, motor, and ESC.  The "Super Combo" offerings include everything that the Kit offers along with three cyclic servos, a tail servo, and a tail gyro.

Replacement Parts

Replacing parts on a Trex 450 Sport is about as easy as it gets in the RC hobby.  The parts are carried at a vast array of online hobby shops as well as local hobby shops all over the world.  The head and tail assemblies are made up of mostly metal parts which are more expensive than plastic, but the prices of replacement parts are generally inexpensive.  Additionally, because the 400/450 class is one of the most popular RC helicopter classes, there is often a huge selection of third-party, aftermarket parts to choose from.

Capabilities

The Trex 450 Sport is designed to excel at sport flying which consists of loops, rolls, flips, forward, backward, and inverted flight.  Although this is it's design sweet spot, it is capable of going much farther into the 3D flight envelope in the hands of a skilled pilot.
