Description
The newest release (2011) of Align's Trex 500 line is the 500E -- the "E" stands for "economy". It is targeted to the budget conscious 500 flyer who is not only looking for a less expensive kit, but less expensive repair costs. The Trex 500E brings back the tail belt drive from 500s of the past. It also adds an array of lower cost plastic parts instead of the more expensive metal ones found on the 500 ESP. The most notable plastic parts on the "E" version include main blade grips, flybar paddles, flybar seesaw, tail box, tail pitch actuator arm, tail pitch slider, and tail blade grips.
The overall design of the 500 E is pod-and-boom with a two-piece carbon fiber main frame and an aluminum tail boom. The head is a mixture of metal and plastic consisting of a metal head block and metal flybar cage with the rest of the assembly being plastic. The kit currently is only available in a flybared configuration but includes three cyclic servos (Align DS510), a tail servo (Align DS520), and a gyro (Align GP 780).
The Trex 500E ships with the newest 500-sized motor, designated 500MX, it is a brushless outrunner and is coupled with a 70 Amp ESC. It is designed to use 425 mm blades and a 2100-2500 6S li-po battery. The dimensions of the finished helicopter is a 970mm main rotor diameter, a length of 840mm, and an overall flying weight of approximately 1700 grams.
