Description
Released in 2010, the Trex 550E by Align Corporation was an all new helicopter design intended for the 550-size heli market (helicopters that use 500-550mm main blades). The heli is a pod-and-boom design incorporating a two piece carbon fiber frame-set and an aluminum tail. The cyclic and collective are controlled via an electronic CCPM system using three servos with direct-to-swash linkages.
The head is an all-metal design using high-quality machined aluminum and is available in FBL (flybarless) or FB (flybared) configurations. The main gear assembly features a main gear and a tail drive gear with autorotation hub. The tail drive employes a torque tube design that is all carbon fiber and aluminum with plastic crown gears. The tail assembly, again, is machined aluminum including the tail box, actuator, slider assembly, and blade grips.
The Trex 550E is designed to be powered by a 6S 2600-5100mAh li-po battery. Additionally the power system features a Align 600M brushless outrunner motor an a 70 Amp electronic speed controller. The heli is designed to use 520mm main blades giving it a main rotor diameter of 1188mm, a length of 1042mm, and an approximate flying weight of 2900 grams.
Kits are available in a FB combo and a FBL combo, all of which include three Align DS610 cyclic servos and one Align DS620 tail servo. The FB kit includes Align's newest gyro, the GP780, while the FBL combo includes the Align 3G flybarless controller.
